He starts writing about Sherlock Holmes in 1886. His first story was study in scarlet it was published in 1887. It was the first introduced Sherlock Holmes and his assistant, Dr. Watson to the public. After a while, he realized that he would write more books about Sherlock Holmes.
A few years later he wrote the second story about Sherlock Holmes the Sign of the Four and Holmes again solved a crime. After a while, the detective became popular. In 1891 A Scandal in Bohemia, these stories made the public like them and the adventure of Sherlock Holmes series begun. Doyle finally tired of these stories, so he decided to kill the character of Sherlock Holmes and so in the story The Final Problem in 1893. Conan dropped Holmes and his enemy, Moriarty, to their apparent deaths in the falls of Reichenbach. Nine years later, he published a third Sherlock Holmes novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, but dated the adventure before Holmes's death. On October 1903, Holmes achieved his mysterious comeback from death in The Empty House and then appeared rarely until 1927. Doyle wrote fifty-six Sherlock Holmes stories and four novels. The last book was The Valley of Fear in 1914. |
